History: According to an 1892 publication, Lake Lucerne is a natural spring-fed lake. The original lake was dammed by a natural ledge of rock, the water eventually eroded through the rock and dropped the lake level. The natural dam was repaired and built up to the point that the lake was 20′ deep in some places.
Over the years, the lake has been named Crystal Lake, Spring Lake, and Sanitarium Lake. (Despite the fact that the sanitarium was never built there). It was the perfect resort property and was a prized location for picnics, boating and horseback riding. There are several references-including old post cards-referring to it as Spring Lake up until the mid-twenties. At that time, the lake was sold to Richard Thompson, who also owned Ozarka Water company and had been president of Crescent College and Conservatory. Mr. Thompson eventually established it as “Lake Lucerne Resort”. He built cabins, pavilions for dancing and for dining, a hotel, a bath house, and a golf course. For years, it was one of the most exclusive resort properties in the area.
This cabin features the original interior and exterior features that made this resort picturesque at the time it was developed. It truly feels like you are stepping back in time to a gone-by era of luxury log cabins.
Note: This cabin is on a gravel road which may not be suitable for motorcycles. Additionally, there is only room for one vehicle. If you have a trailer, or will be expecting guests, please notify us and request special accommodations. (This house only sleeps 2).
